BYD to establish local assembly plant in Tanjung Malim by 2026


TANJUNG MALIM: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD will be establishing its Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) local assembly plant here.

State tourism, industry, investment, and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said that the plant was expected to be built from June to December 2026.

"The state government warmly welcomes and fully supports BYD’s investment," he said in a press conference on Friday (Aug 22).

He mentioned that the initial phase of the plant spanned 150 acres (60.7ha) and vehicle manufacturing was forecasted to start in 2026.

Loh also said that plans are currently underway to build a new Research and Development and testing centre for land vehicles in Sungkai, near Tanjung Malim.

"Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad will reveal more details about this during the official launch event at Tanjung Malim on Sept 4," he added.

Loh also announced that under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), the authorities have approved the upgrading of Federal Route 1 (FT01) from the Tanjung Malim toll plaza to Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah

Behrang.

"This road upgrade will expand the current two-lane road to four lanes, enhancing traffic flow and improving connectivity between key industrial areas in the region

"The project is currently undergoing a value evaluation by the Public Works Department (JKR)," he added.
