Police seek witnesses to fatal student crash in Pitas


KOTA MARUDU: Police are seeking witnesses in a hit-and-run case involving a male Form Four student who was killed after his motorcycle collided with a compact car on Jalan Bongkol, Kampung Kalipoun Darat, Pitas, on Saturday (Aug 16).

Kota Marudu OCPD Supt Simiun Lomudin said initial investigations found that the victim's motorcycle was struck and dragged by the vehicle during the 6.30pm incident.

"The incident occurred while the victim was on his way home. The driver of the vehicle is believed to have fled the scene.

"In this regard, the police are appealing for the cooperation of the public who witnessed the incident, or have any information related to the crash, to come forward and assist with the investigation," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 18).

Simiun added that members of the public with information can contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division investigating officer at the Kota Marudu district police headquarters, Inspector Julina Samual, at 088-661 066.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for careless driving causing death. – Bernama
