Form 1 student reports bullying to Education Ministry after school fails to act

PETALING JAYA: Instead of waiting for action to be taken, a student took matters into their own hands by reporting bullying through the Education Ministry’s aduanbuli.moe.gov.my portal.

In a viral screenshot shared on X of a comment made by an unknown person on Facebook, the mother wrote that her Form 1 child was a quiet person and hardly has friends.

"My child was bullied by a classmate, and later complained to the disciplinary teacher, who ignored his claim. My child did not even tell me about the bullying.

"Instead my child went online to look for the ministry’s bullying portal and lodged a complaint, detailing everything that happened including the bully’s name.

"One day police showed up at the school but all the teachers were clueless as to what had happened, so the authorities shared that there was a bullying complaint involving the school," the post shared by X user @xatyrosdi.bsky.social

Many netizens praised the child for taking swift action against the bullying.

User @Bomoh Sains Komputer shared a meme of Marvel’s comic Thanos saying ‘fine I’ll do it myself’ in reference to the child lodging the complaint via the portal.

User @AfifAfif13984 said this matter should have made front page news on what action the ministry should take.

"If you want to make it better, ensure it is mandatory for all schools to print aduanbuli.moe.gov.my on uniform, official attires, posters at every corner of the school, so that all kids will be reminded of it," he said.

Another X user @Deegee4646 pointed out that if the matter was reported to the school, action against it would have taken much longer.

"What’s worse, the school would have just let it slide because some of these bullies are the golden students at the schools.

"At least it is good that complaints can go directly to the ministry," she said.

One user @bloodyCain60 called the student smart and wished he was like that at the same age.

"When I was the kid’s age, I kept quiet even though I got bullied. Maybe because I grew bigger, the bully decided not to do it anymore. Alhamdullilah," he said.

The issue surrounding bullying has been making headway with many incidents being reported and highlighted.

Recently, the country was shocked by the passing of a 13-year-old student, Zara Qairina Mahathir, whose death is believed to have been caused by a bullying case.

Many parents have expressed concern over the rampant cases of bullying in schools with many coming forward to share about their child’s incidents.
