Policeman injured as group attempts to hand over memorandum

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman has been injured as a political party attempted to hand over a memorandum to lawmakers in the Parliament building here.

In a statement on Wednesday (Aug 13), Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said a video of the incident showed a clash between participants and policemen on Jalan Parlimen.

"A policeman suffered injuries and was sent for treatment. An investigation paper has been opened under Section 353/427 of the Penal Code," he said.

He added that police remain committed to facilitating the right of the public to assemble publicly but that right must be practiced with care and prudence.
