Civil servants in Negri urged to fly Jalur Gemilang at home for National Day celebrations, says MB

SEREMBAN: All state civil servants have been told to fly the Jalur Gemilang at their homes in conjunction with the coming National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Mentri Besar said department heads would be required to fly both the national as well as state flags.

"I told the state secretary to issue a memo on this on Monday and this has already been sent out.

"It is my hope they will comply," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri.

There are some 7,000 state government employees in Negri Sembilan.

Aminuddin said department heads living outside the state will also be required to fly the two flags at their homes.

"If we get reports of non-compliance, action will be taken," he said without elaborating.

He said the civil servants will have to buy the flags. He also expressed hope that the federal government employees will follow suit.

"We cannot compel them to do the same but it will be good if they can also fly the Jalur Gemilang," he said.

Asked if he was happy with the number of flags put up by the people in the state so far, Aminuddin said he was not.

"It is still slow but perhaps the people think that Merdeka Day is still far away.

"I hope they will do so as soon as possible and do it correctly," he said.

All local councils, he said, have also been directed to be more resourceful and find new methods of displaying the national and state flags during the period.

"For decades, they have been employing the same methods when putting up the flags.

"I have asked them to be more enterprising so that we can truly usher in the celebration," he added.
