New judge expected to preside over podcast host's defamation suit against Caprice

KUALA LUMPUR: A new judge is expected to preside over a defamation lawsuit filed by podcast host and entrepreneur Asyraf Khalid against rapper Caprice.

Lawyer Abdul Hakeem Aiman, who represented Asyraf, told the press that the High Court has fixed Aug 18 to hear an inter-parte injunction application before the new judge.

The inter-parte injunction application is to stop Caprice from publishing or repeating the alleged defamatory posts.

It is learnt that the current judge, Judicial Commissioner Dr Suzana Muhamad Said, is expected to move to the Georgetown High Court in Penang.

"Today is initially fixed for an ex-parte injunction before JC Suzana but since she is moving, nothing can proceed before her," Abdul Hakeem said here on Tuesday (Aug 12).

Asyraf, who is also the stepson of singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, filed the lawsuit against Caprice, or his real name Ariz Ramli, on Aug 4.

Asyraf, 33, claims that Caprice, 37, has defamed him on his (Caprice) platform multiple times.

The alleged defamatory posts were published 31 times, he claims.

Asyraf claims that the post had hurt his reputation and his good name.

The beef between the two men began when Asyraf posted a teaser of a new episode of his show "Apa Cerita?" featuring a controversial fitness coach who is currently facing serious criminal allegations.

After the teaser was released, many had criticised the episode, including Caprice who was vocal about Asyraf's podcast guest.
