Lawyer confirms injuries seen on Zara Qairina during autopsy


KOTA KINABALU: The lawyer representing the family of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir confirmed that there were indeed injuries on the body of the 13-year-old, as reported on social media following his observations during a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) here on Sunday (Aug 10), Sinar Harian reports.

Lawyer Shahlan Jufri told the Malay language daily that he spent eight hours in the autopsy room without eating or drinking to observe the entire procedure conducted by the forensic team.

"There are definitely injuries, there are indeed injuries. The injuries are as you know from social media, that's how it is. Beyond that, I cannot disclose as it is still under investigation and is confidential.

"I do not quite remember the number of injuries, but there were indeed fractures, there were indeed injuries," he said when met at the Forensic Department of HQEI on Sunday night.

He also emphasized that the post-mortem process was conducted transparently without any external interference.

"I am satisfied with the process as there was no interference from any parties, only those involved were present.

"The post-mortem process was conducted transparently, with very high integrity and smoothly," he stressed.
