Call off planned rally in front of Zara's school, urges Sabah Education Dept

KOTA KINABALU: The public are advised against rallying or gathering in front of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar to avoid disrupting classes, says the Sabah Education Department.

Its director Datuk Raisin Saidin said he is aware of a poster about a planned #justiceforzara rally to be held outside the school.

Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, was confirmed dead at the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 17 after she was found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of the religious school at 4am on July 16.

He said students and teachers attending school there would be badly affected – both emotionally and mentally.

He said the department does not approve of such a rally as Zara's case is under investigation by authorities and it was not right to have such gatherings outside schools.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad made a similar plea for the public not to take part in the rally or to boycott the school as authorities are working hard to ensure justice is delivered in the case.
