Early days for naming Ampang candidate in GE16, says PKR

PETALING JAYA: It is still too early to decide on the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Ampang parliamentary seat in the 16th General Election (GE16), says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) division chief, Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad, better known as Altimet.

Altimet, who is also the Lembah Jaya assemblyman, said the top leadership of PKR would determine all decisions on candidates.

“With regard to speculation about our parliamentary candidate for the next general election, the Ampang division would like to state that it is still too early to make any decision.

“We leave this matter completely to the party’s top leadership, in accordance with PKR’s internal democratic processes,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 10).

The Ampang division has drawn attention recently following Tengku Zafrul’s official entry into PKR.On Aug 8, Zafrul confirmed that his membership application had been approved, just two months after leaving Umno on June 2.

Altimet said election candidacy was not determined by an individual’s residential address, division membership, or party position, but instead follows the criteria set by the Election Commission (EC).

He also welcomed individuals from all backgrounds to join PKR in its efforts to build a fairer, more prosperous and progressive Malaysia.

“Our focus remains on strengthening grassroots efforts, protecting the welfare of the people, and ensuring that the reform agenda championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the party leadership is effectively implemented,” he said.
