Zara Qairina’s mother denies linking VIPs to daughter's death

KOTA KINABALU: Zara Qairina Mahathir's mother has not accused any VIP of involvement in her daughter's death, say lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri.

Noraidah Lamat stated through her legal representatives that these allegations had been made by third parties online, not by her.

She denied knowledge of claims circulating on social media about students shouting "you are a murderer" to another student after Zara's death.

"Our client only became aware of this claim after it went viral on social media," the lawyers said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 2).

Noraidah urged the public to stop spreading unverified information related to Zara, her family, or others.

The lawyers said spreading false information could jeopardise police investigations and cause defamatory consequences.

They encouraged those with credible information to assist the police with their investigations.

Regarding the July 16 incident at a religious school in Papar, Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal called for thorough and transparent investigations.

He said if bullying led to the student's death, the perpetrators must face justice.

Parents, teachers, students, and the community must work together to stop bullying and all forms of violence in schools.

"Malaysia needs people with knowledge and skills. We must stop the bullying culture, which seems to be getting more rampant," said Shafie.

He said the authorities owe the victim, her family and the community answers about Zara's death.

Zara's mother has requested an autopsy, expressing doubts and seeking answers.
