MUKAH: A 20-acre forest fire near an oil palm plantation in Mukah has entered its fourth consecutive day, with firefighters working tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
The State Fire and Rescue Department reported that the fire was first detected burning within a forested area adjacent to the plantation.
Firefighting teams were immediately deployed to the scene and have been battling the flames using water drawn from nearby ditches.
On the fourth day of operations on Monday (July 28), the commanding officer directed firefighters to utilise a GP 10/10 portable pump, along with two 500-foot hoses and two water jets, to contain the fire.
"Firefighters employed a water spray cooling technique to create a firebreak and prevent the flames from spreading further," the department said in a statement.
However, the operation was not without challenges.
The team faced recurring issues with the pump and delivery hoses, forcing them to frequently reposition during suppression efforts.
In the afternoon session, a separate team continued operations using one pump, a 900-foot hose, and a single jet to douse the fire.
The operation was temporarily halted at 5.57pm, with firefighters returning to the station for rest and resupply.
