GOF nabs three, seizes 19kg of ganja buds at Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The General Operations Force (GOF) has detained three Indian nationals and seized 19kg of ganja buds worth over RM500,000 at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex here.

GOF North Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Shahrum Hashim said the suspects were detained on Thursday (July 24) near a roadblock at KM1.1 southbound after entering the country on foot with their backpacks and luggage.

"The inspection led to the discovery of cannabis buds hidden inside two wheeled suitcases and two backpacks carried by the suspects," he said in a statement on Friday (July 25).

SAC Shahrum said GOF personnel found several transparent packets and junk food packets containing the buds, weighing 19.431kg and worth an estimated RM582,930.

He said GOF personnel also seized 600 baht (RM80) from the suspects.

SAC Shahrum said police believe the suspects were couriers for a syndicate from a neighbouring country to be delivered to distributors in Kuala Lumpur.

"Investigations are ongoing to trace the syndicate involved," he added.

SAC Shahrum said the seized items will be handed over to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Kubang Pasu police headquarters for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
