KANGAR: A local council assistant architectural officer in Perlis, who was remanded for seven days from July 15 to assist in a graft investigation, was released on Monday (July 21) on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail.
Perlis MACC director Mohd Nor Adha Ab Gani stated that although the 37-year-old woman has been released, investigations into the case are ongoing.
The case was believed to involve approximately RM70,000 and allegedly implicated her alongside a retired enforcement assistant from the same council.
"The retired officer, who was remanded with the woman on July 15, was released on July 17," he said in a brief message to Bernama via WhatsApp on Monday.
On July 15, the media reported that the woman and the 61-year-old man were suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes ranging from RM300 to RM9,000 from applicants in exchange for facilitating house renovation permit approvals across Perlis between 2022 and 2024.
The duo allegedly received the bribes through bank transfers made to the male suspect's account, which was later believed to have been shared with the female suspect.
Mohd Nor Adha said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
