Nine men rescued from leaking boat near Sebangkat Island

KOTA KINABALU: Nine men were rescued after their speedboat began leaking in waters off Sebangkat Island, Semporna.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officials received a distress call about the incident at around 11.37am on Saturday (July 19) and initiated a rescue operation.

Upon arrival, they found three men in the partially sunk boat, while six others were in the water, clinging to the boat.

According to MMEA officials, the victims were quickly transferred to MMEA and police vessels, where preliminary medical inspections were carried out.

No one was injured in the incident, the MMEA said.

Operations at the scene concluded at 12.59pm, and all victims were safely transferred to their initial destinations.
