Two Chinese nationals killed in crash on NSE near Tapah


IPOH: Two Chinese nationals were killed after the car they were in lost control and crashed near KM317 northbound of the North-South Expressway in Tapah.

Tapah OCPD Superintendent Johari Yahya said the two victims, identified as Hong Chong and Pan Yucheng, both 41 and from Guangdong, are believed to have died from serious head injuries following the accident on Monday (July 14) at about 9.35pm.

Supt Johari said both victims were passengers in the car driven by Lau Yong Keng, a 56-year-old factory supervisor from Sungai Bakap, Penang.

"The driver sustained injuries to his neck and limbs.

"Hong, a company manager and Pan, a marketing manager, were pronounced dead on the spot by medical personnel," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 15).

"Their bodies have been sent to the Tapah Hospital for post mortem," he said, adding that the front and left part of the car were badly damaged from the crash.

Supt Johari said the victims were on their way to Penang from Kuala Lumpur prior to the incident.

"The driver, who was driving on the right lane, tried to avoid crashing into the back of a lorry that had switched lanes," he said, adding that the police have obtained dashcam footage from the car.

"There has been no arrest made and we are now trying to look for witnesses.

"The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act and those with information can contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Zulhafiz Zainuddin at 017-400 6662," he added.
