Sabah cops double drug seizures in first half of 2025

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police more than doubled their narcotics seizures in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, marking a major breakthrough in the state’s war on drugs.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun revealed that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department seized drugs worth RM6.56mil from January to June this year, over twice the RM2.62mil seized during the same period in 2024.

He noted that the RM3.94mil increase is a clear indication of the force’s enhanced intelligence gathering and enforcement strategies.

"This is a result of ongoing commitment, strategic raids, intelligence collaboration, and integrated operations with other enforcement agencies," he said during the Sabah Police Monthly Assembly at the state police headquarters in Kepayan on Friday (July 11).

Jauteh added that the police will continue intensifying efforts to meet all key performance indicators set by leadership.

He also highlighted the success of the Asset Forfeiture Division, which recorded RM8.29mil in asset seizures this year, a massive 785% increase from RM1.05mil in the same period last year.

Although there was a marginal decline in total drug cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act, from 8,173 cases in 2024 to 8,170 this year, the number of arrests rose slightly to 8,542, up from 8,517.

A total of 7,607 charges have been filed so far this year, covering trafficking, possession, and offences under the Poison Act, from a total of 8,174 opened cases.

Jauteh extended his appreciation to all police officers and enforcement partners for their continued dedication to keeping Sabah safe from narcotics crime, and also acknowledged Sabah Narcotics chief Asst Comm Alhusin Halil for leading this month’s assembly.
