Diesel smuggling bid foiled

KOTA KINABALU: Sandakan marine police raided a fishing vessel after they spotted it moving in an unusual manner.

They discovered eight fibreglass tanks filled with subsidised diesel during the raid at 3.15am on Saturday.

“We believe it was meant to be smuggled into a neighbouring country,” the Sandakan marine police said in a statement yesterday.

They seized the diesel, weighing around 700 litres, and worth RM367,050.

A 54-year-old local skipper was also nabbed.
