UMT student dies in accident at Perasing R&R

CHUKAI: A student from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) was killed, and her friend suffered serious injuries after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a road barrier at the entrance of the Perasing Rest and Service Area (R&R) this afternoon.

Kemaman OCPD Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the deceased was identified as Siti Ain Balqis Hamdan, 23, from Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, while her pillion rider, Nur Intan Syafiera Batrisya Hamzah, 22, from Mantin, Negri Sembilan, sustained injuries to her head, body, and leg.

He said the incident was believed to have occurred when the victim, travelling from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, lost control and crashed into the left roadside barrier.

"Police received an emergency call at around 3pm. Preliminary investigations found that Siti Ain was thrown to the left side while her friend fell onto the road.

"Siti Ain died at the scene and her remains were sent to the Kemaman Hospital Forensics Unit for a post-mortem, while her friend was rushed to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) in Kuantan, Pahang for emergency treatment," he said when contacted Thursday (July 3). - Bernama
