SEPANG: Passengers using the KLIA Aerotrain at Terminal 1 of the KL International Airport (KLIA) on Tuesday (July 1) described their experience as much better compared to the old train, particularly in terms of comfort, design and operational efficiency.
A passenger, Syazwan Misbah, 32, said the new train provides a more interesting experience with a more modern and better atmosphere in the carriage.
"I think this new one is more efficient because it runs non-stop every two minutes and we don't have to wait long.
"Taking the bus was quite difficult for passengers who had to walk a long way This new aerotrain is within the satellite building," he said.
The aerotrain service resumed full operations this morning after undergoing a RM456mil upgrading process, as part of the RM742mil KLIA transformation initiative, aimed at strengthening its position as a world-class regional aviation hub.
Nazihah Abdullah, 35, from Kuala Lumpur, who was on her way to India, said the new train service provides significant comfort with more spacious areas and clearer information displays.
"The train space is a bit more spacious and has a clear display. The old one didn't have a display like this," she said, adding that the waiting time to board the train was also not too long, and the entire journey took less than three minutes.
A Taiwanese traveller, Dr Inglish Huang said he considered himself lucky as he got the privilege to experience the first day of the relaunch of this Aerotrain.
Huang, who is International Korfball Federation (IKF) Asia president, also expressed his admiration for the country's warm hospitality and the newly launched aerotrain.
"We came from Taiwan to promote our sport, Korfball, a mixed team game played by boys and girls together. It's often called Dutch basketball and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
"Previously, we had to rely on the bus transit and wait longer, but now we are lucky to have this. The air-conditioning is good, and it's very fast and efficient. Honestly, the ride feels almost romantic," he added.
The Aerotrain, which has been an iconic feature of KLIA since its opening in 1998, is now equipped with the Alstom Innovia APM 300R train set. Each three-car train can accommodate up to 270 passengers and operates at a maximum speed of 56km/h, thereby reducing the travel time between the main terminal and satellite terminal to less than three minutes.
This new train is also equipped with an advanced condition monitoring system designed to reduce service disruptions, enhance operational efficiency and increase user comfort. - Bernama
