PUTRAJAYA: The aerotrain service at the KL International Airport’s Terminal 1 will resume round-the-clock operations from today following the completion of a Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP), says Transport Minister Anthony Loke (pic).
He said the plan, implemented since Nov 2025, was carried out in coordination with the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) and verified by independent railway assessors.
“The CAP covered three structured stages, namely inspection and recti- fication works, system testing and validation, as well as trial operations.
“Endurance testing was conducted over 24-hour and 48-hour periods under both passenger and non-passenger conditions,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.
Loke said the aerotrain recorded 100% operational service availability since Jan 2026.
He added that the daily engineering hours from midnight to 5am will continue to be maintained, during which a single train will remain in operation to serve passengers while routine inspections and maintenance works are carried out.
“The Transport Ministry, through Apad, will continue to exercise regulatory oversight over the aerotrain’s operations, while Malaysia Airports remains accountable for maintaining the service standards established under this plan,” he said.
Ever since resuming operations in July 2025 after a major replacement programme that lasted for two years, the aerotrain faced numerous technical issues.
Last October, MAHB said a comprehensive action plan was taken to address recurring reliability issues.
As an interim measure, a shuttle bus service was deployed during off-peak hours to serve passengers between 11pm and 5am daily to facilitate planned and additional inspections and rectification works.
Additionally, from 5am to 11pm, the shuttle bus service continues to be operated alongside the aerotrain to ensure uninterrupted passenger movement.
