Elderly man burnt to death in Lawas house fire


KUCHING: An elderly man was found burnt to death in a fire that destroyed a terrace house in Lawas, Sarawak's northernmost town, on Friday (June 27) morning.

The body of Dudol Karim, 89, was discovered in the debris of the semi-permanent house at about 6am after the blaze was successfully extinguished.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre, two other occupants of the house, Gairil Mustafa, 32, and Nursyamioy Drahman, 31, survived the incident.

It said the department received a distress call about the fire at 4.18am, and a team of 14 firefighters and a fire engine from the Lawas Fire and Rescue Station was sent to the scene.

The fire was brought under control at 4.30am and fully extinguished at 6am. The body was then handed over to the police for further action. – Bernama
