University to enhance security following student's murder


PETALING JAYA: The University of Cyberjaya says it will strengthen security procedures after one of its students was found dead.

"We are committed to the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community.

"The safety of our students, their families and the surrounding community remains our utmost

priority.

"In addition to existing measures, we are working closely with security experts to further strengthen our safety procedures," it said in a statement on Thursday (June 26).

The university also expressed its heartfelt condolences to friends and family of the victim.

"The university is fully cooperating with authorities to ensure a thorough and timely investigation. Out of respect for the family, we kindly request that their privacy be maintained and that all parties refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information during this difficult time," it said.

It was previously reported that the victim, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student, was found dead in a students' hostel in Selangor.

The body of the victim, who was from Kuching, Sarawak, was found at about 10am on Tuesday (June 24) by a friend who then immediately alerted the police.

The victim was living with five other students who had returned home for the holidays on June 21.

She was alone at the hostel as she was scheduled to sit for an upcoming examination.
