Nine, including five women, to undergo two-year community rehab for drug abuse

SIBU: Nine individuals, including five women, have been ordered by the Belaga Circuit Court to undergo two years of community-based rehabilitation for drug abuse offences.

The Sibu District National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) said the order, effective June 24, was issued under Section 6(1)(b) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

All individuals, aged between 30 and 59, are from Sungai Asap, Belaga, and had tested positive for drugs during operations carried out in February and April.

"Four of the women are housewives, while another works as a general worker. The male offenders are all farmers. The group also includes a married couple aged 35 and 36,” an AADK spokesperson told Bernama.

As part of the order, they must report to Sibu AADK monthly and participate in rehabilitation programmes in the Kapit Division.

"They are also expected to make a firm commitment to stay drug-free and avoid relapse,” the spokesperson added. - Bernama
