Flash floods hit Balik Pulau after hours of heavy rain


BALIK PULAU: Prolonged heavy rain on Monday (June 16) led to flash floods in parts of Ayer Putih, with several homes affected.

A spokesman from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department said continuous rainfall from around 3pm caused drains in the hilly area to overflow, sending water surging onto roads and into homes.

"Due to the area's location at the foot of a hill, the volume of rainwater overwhelmed the drainage system. Floodwaters entered four houses, rising to about one foot deep," the spokesman said.

A team of six firefighters was deployed to the scene after an emergency call was received at approximately 4pm.

Firefighters reported that the situation was under control, with floodwaters gradually receding. No rescue operations were required during the incident.

The operation concluded at around 6.30pm.
