Form Five student remanded one week over murder of mother and brother

MELAKA: A Form Five student accused of murdering his mother and elder brother in Bukit Rambai here has been remanded for seven days until June 19.

Magistrate N. Sivashangari issued the remand order on Friday (June 13) against the 17-year-old for the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

On Thursday (June 12), Melaka police confirmed that the teenager was the prime suspect in the double murder of his 51-year-old mother and elder brother, a 21-year-old college student.

In the 5am incident on Thursday, the suspect's 13-year-old brother was also stabbed while trying to save the victims.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said that the suspect stabbed his mother, a teacher at a vernacular school, several times in the neck, waist and back using a 20cm-long folding knife.

He said preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may have been emotionally distressed and harboured resentment as he was pressured to excel academically.

The suspect was arrested while in a dazed state at the porch of the single-storey house and the folding knife used in the attack was in his school bag.
