Explosion rocks fruit shop in Bandar Baru Klang, damaging six vehicles

KLANG: An explosion at a fruit shop in Bandar Baru Klang on Thursday evening (June 12), caused part of its wall structure to collapse and damaged six cars parked nearby.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the distress call was received at about 5.27pm on Thursday (June 12).

"Firemen from the North Klang Fire Station were dispatched to the scene,” he said, adding that it took 6 minutes for the fire engine to arrive at the scene.

"Part of the wall structure of the ship collapsed, and six vehicles parked nearby were also affected.

"No one was injured during the incident," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Initial investigation revealed the chemical calcium carbide caused the explosion, he said.

"The chemical is used to accelerate the ripening of fruits," he added.
