PUTRAJAYA: The position of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as a Cabinet minister, as well as Umno’s request to retain all seven of its ministerial posts, was not discussed during the Cabinet meeting, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

"This was not raised during the Cabinet meeting," the Communications Minister said during a post-Cabinet meeting press conference on Thursday (June 5).

Tengku Zafrul had submitted his resignation letter from Umno to join PKR.

In addition, Tengku Zafrul confirmed that he had expressed his intention to join PKR to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and secretary-general Fuziah Salleh.

On June 1, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno wanted another Cabinet minister post following Tengku Zafrul’s exit from the party.

Ahmad Zahid said this was because Umno previously had seven Cabinet ministers, and Tengku Zafrul’s departure would leave the Barisan Nasional lynchpin with only six ministers.
