Woman with machete nabbed for intimidating people in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A machete-wielding woman who was driving in Tawau district has been arrested for criminal intimidation.

The 39-year-old was reportedly going amok and screaming at people in front of a business premise at 5pm on Sunday (June 1) while driving slowly and holding the machete in one hand.

Policemen patrolling the area received information about the matter and headed to the scene, quickly stopping and apprehending the woman, preventing any unwanted incidents from happening.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said that upon reaching the scene, policemen saw that the woman was holding a machete and they had stopped her car while grabbing the weapon from her hand.

Inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of an axe inside, he added.

“The suspect, weapons and vehicle were taken to the police station for further investigation,” he said, adding that police were probing the motive behind the suspect’s actions.

ACP Jasmin said police were investigating this case under criminal intimidation.
