Asean Community 2045 will make bloc resilient, innovative, people-oriented, says Tok Mat

KUALA LUMPUR: Adopting the Asean Community Vision 2045 is the birth of a collective endeavour for the future, reaffirming a shared commitment to a secure, peaceful, resilient and people-centred Asean, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Foreign Minister said it presented a bold ambition, to make Asean a resilient, innovative and people-oriented community, adding that it was not merely a ceremonial marker.

“The 46th Asean Summit allows us to situate these values at the heart of Asean’s trajectory, as we look towards the realization of the Asean Community Vision 2045,” he said in his opening remarks at the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting here on Sunday (May 25).

Mohamad said the success of this vision began with laying the groundwork.

“The foundations we build now will determine whether that vision becomes a reality or remains an aspiration.

“Let us face the future not as individual nations charting separate paths but as one community, anchored in mutual respect and shared goals,” he said.

In the Dewan Rakyat earlier this year, Mohamad said Asean would launch the Asean Community Vision 2045 and its four Strategic Plans, which would outline the region's strategic direction for the next 20 years, at the 46th Asean Summit.

Malaysia is hosting the 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits from May 26 to 27.

Wisma Putra is taking the lead in organising these summits under Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year with the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.

Two other high-level meetings – the 2nd Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the Asean-GCC-China Economic Summit – will also be held.
