Ipoh woman lodges report after viral video of alleged assault by employer

IPOH: A 24-year-old woman has lodged a report against her employer for physically assaulting her.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police had earlier detected a viral video uploaded by the owner of the "Jabatan Netizen Negara" Facebook account showing an incident where an employer was seen allegedly physically assaulting a woman.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred around the Taman Rishah area here.

“Following the circulation of the video, on May 22 at about 2.10pm, a 24-year-old woman lodged a police report.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that while the complainant was at work, a misunderstanding occurred after she opened a letter addressed to the suspect.

“The suspect then reacted by pushing the laptop the complainant was using, causing it to hit her in the face,” he said in a statement Saturday (May 24).

ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the complainant received treatment and a medical examination at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

He said the investigation is currently being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

“We are recording statements from several witnesses who were present at the scene to assist with the investigation.

“We have identified the suspect, and action is being taken in accordance with legal procedures.

“We advise the public not to forward the video, or unverified information related to the incident to avoid any disruption to the investigation process,” he added.
