No matter what happens, Rafizi will always be my friend, says Nurul Izzah

JOHOR BARU: Nurul Izzah Anwar says Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will always be her friend, no matter who wins the contest for the PKR deputy president post.

In her final speech just hours before the party polls, the PKR vice-president reassured party members that despite their differences, her friendship with the incumbent deputy president remains intact.

"No matter what happens – whether I win or lose – it does not affect the friendship we have built.

"Rafizi is my friend, not just in the past but now and always. I will remind all of you of that.

"Maybe we have different styles, mechanisms and approaches – but to be a leader, the first thing is to overcome your ego," she said in her speech at a hotel here on Thursday (May 22).

Nurul Izzah also told the crowd that she had previously stepped aside and fully embraced the role of a follower.

"I did not contest in the last party election. I said, okay, I will follow. So, when it is our turn now, I hope to see a similar spirit. We work together. There is no need to be overly concerned about who comes out on top," she said.

She also urged party members to evaluate her based on her contributions.

"Look at the track record – the things I have spoken up about and the things I have opposed.

"Maybe I did not shout it out to the public because I care about the party's image," she said.
