PKR issues warning to Rafizi for listing preferred candidates

PETALING JAYA: One day before the PKR polls, the party's election committee has issued a stern warning to Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for announcing his preferred candidate line-up.

Rafizi, who is PKR deputy president, shared a list of his preferred candidates, including those vying to be vice president, such as Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Aminuddin Harun.

"We are now in the stage of issuing stern warnings to the parties involved," committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said during a press conference at the Persada International Convention Centre here on Thursday (May 22).

Dr Zaliha said the committee had informed PKR's central leadership council that it would act on any type of complaints, including those violating party election rules.

"The complaint will be forwarded to the party's disciplinary committee as decided in the party's central leadership council," she said in a joint press conference with PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh, information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and its disciplinary board chairman Datuk Ahmad Kasim.

Dr Zaliha said she has ordered candidates' banners at polling stations to be taken down as these were against election guidelines.

Others on Rafizi's list include Subang MP Wong Chen; Deputy Energy Transition and Public Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir; Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who is vying for the PKR Wanita chief's post against incumbent Fadhlina Sidek (who is also Education Minister) and political secretary to the PKR president G. Manivanan.

"Our challenge today is to choose a leader who can commit to the ideals of reform, even when tested by power," Rafizi said in his post on May 21.

He is contesting the deputy president post against party vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar
