Raven Kumar willing to serve in Johor exco again but says decision lies with MB, palace

JOHOR BARU: Fresh off his victory during the Johor polls, state MIC chairman K. Raven Kumar says he is not vying for a place in the state executive council and will leave it to the wisdom of Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

However, the Kemelah assemblyman said he would be willing to serve again in the state executive council.

"The appointment of executive council members is the prerogative of the Johor royal institution and Mentri Besar and I will be satisfied as long as one of MIC's four assemblymen is appointed.

"We have always respected Barisan Nasional's system in deciding the executive council and we are not challenging that.

"If I am reappointed, I will do my best. If not, I will offer guidance to whoever is appointed," he said on Tuesday (July 14).

Raven Kumar also attributed Barisan's strong performance in winning 48 out of 56 seats in the Johor polls to the state government's track record over the past four years.

"The secret to this victory is that the previous executive council did a good job. Voters are smart and judge the government's performance over the past four years.

"Barisan representatives must now focus on serving all constituents regardless of race," he said, adding that five years can pass very quickly.

MIC contested and won all four seats contested, namely Kemelah, Perling, Bukit Batu and Kahang.

After Barisan gained a strong mandate in the Johor polls, Onn Hafiz was sworn in as Mentri Besar for a second term on Sunday (July 12).
