Thunderstorm warning issued for 13 states and KL


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for 13 states and Kuala Lumpur in effect until 7pm on Sunday (May 18).

In Perlis, the entire state is on alert.

In Kedah, areas including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu are expected to be affected.

Pulau Pinang is also under the warning.

In Perak, severe weather is anticipated.

Kelantan's Gua Musang is on alert.

In Terengganu, districts such as Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

Pahang areas including Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, and Kuantan are included in the warning.

Selangor regions like Gombak and Hulu Langat, along with Kuala Lumpur, are expected to face severe weather.

In Negeri Sembilan, districts including Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol, and Tampin are on alert.

The warning extends to Melaka.

In Johor, the entire state is expected to experience severe weather.

In Sarawak, areas such as Serian (Serian), Samarahan (Simunjan), and Sri Aman are under the warning.

In Sabah, the Interior (Beaufort and Tambunan), West Coast (Papar and Ranau), Tawau (Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Kinabatangan), and Kudat (Kota Marudu) are expected to face adverse conditions.

This warning is issued by MetMalaysia when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
