PETALING JAYA: The family of fireman Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, who has been missing in the aftermath of the flood disaster in Nepal, are clinging on to hope that he would be found soon.
“There is still hope,” said his wife Hani Othman, who is in Nepal to locate her missing husband and his team mates who were on a hiking expedition there.
Fire and Rescue Department Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Fakhrul, 44, was among a group of 10 Malaysians known as “Team Loe” who have been uncontactable since floods struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district.
The group is believed to have been in a valley when the floodwaters hit.
Hani recently went to a hospital at the disaster site to identify the bodies recovered from the scene.
Mohd Fakhrul’s elder brother, Mohd Saiful Munir, 46, who is also a fire and rescue department officer, is expected to join the Malaysian Special Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) which will be deployed to Nepal for search and rescue operations.
Mohd Saiful reportedly said his selection was particularly meaningful as it would give him the opportunity to personally search for his younger brother and many other Malaysians who have remained uncontactable for more than 90 hours.
Meanwhile, the wife of fellow Fire and Rescue Department officer Mohd Sani Harul took to social media platform to say a prayer for her husband.
“Five days without any news from my husband and his team in Nepal,” said Aziela Shaharuddin in a post.
Mohd Sani, the Fire and Rescue Operations Division deputy director, was reported missing during the same expedition.
Meanwhile, the family of Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad Noor Hadi, who has reportedly remained unreachable following flash floods and landslides in the Nepal-China border area in Nepal last Wednesday, hopes that the hiker will be found safe.
His father said the family from Penang was now waiting for the latest updates from the authorities after being informed about the situation in Nepal and other developments by Wisma Putra.
They were in Kuala Lumpur to follow developments concerning Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad, who works with the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM) Penang, Bernama quoted Noor Hadi yesterday.
“Until now, we have also not received any phone calls or messages from him in Nepal.
“We hope that he will be found safe. We are constantly praying for his safety,” he added.
He said his son left for Nepal last week with two friends to undertake a hiking expedition in Langtang Valley and was scheduled to return to Malaysia yesterday.
