Man held over wife’s death

KUALA LUMPUR: The husband of the woman who died after allegedly being thrown out of a van has been arrested.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Aidil Bolhassan said that the 50-year-old man was arrested at 6pm yesterday in Taman Kinrara, Puchong.

“The suspect admitted that there had been an argument between him and his wife on their way home at the time,” he said in a statement.

Investigations showed that the suspect had tested positive for drugs.

According to ACP Aidil, the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and benzodiazepine.

The man also has a criminal record and two previous offences related to drug use, he said, adding that the suspect also claimed that the victim was involved in methamphetamine abuse.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and to obtain further statements from relevant witnesses.

On Tuesday, witnesses told the police that the 44-year-old victim had been thrown out of a van around 2.30pm along the Kesas Highway near the Awan Besar R&R complex.

The van was also seen speeding off.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical officers.

The couple had reportedly been married for 20 years and has two children.

On May 6, ACP Aidil confirmed that the victim was not Datin Seri Pamela Ling, who is missing.

“The victim is a 44-year-old woman from Ipoh, Perak. I can confirm that she is not the missing ‘Pamela Ling’,” he said.

On April 9, Ling was summoned to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to assist with an investigation under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.

However, she reportedly went missing while on her way to the appointment.

Her lawyer filed a police report regarding her disappearance on the same day.
