Selangor PKR gives full backing to Nurul Izzah to run for party deputy president

PETALING JAYA: Selangor PKR has given its unconditional backing for Nurul Izzah Anwar's candidacy as deputy president in the upcoming party polls, saying she is a leader who will ensure the party remains in power and also stays relevant and progressive.

In a joint statement on Tuesday (May 6) Selangor Mentri Besar and state PKR chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and 18 other state PKR branch leaders said the party needs a candidate who is not tied to the government and can focus on fortifying the party's internal strength.

They said the party does not need leaders who are only "good at giving speeches or winning seats" but those who understand the sentiments of its members, are willing to listen to the grassroots and put party matters above personal interests.

They said if Nurul Izzah becomes PKR deputy president, the party could regain the public's trust.

"We need a someone who can dedicate all their efforts to prepare the party for the upcoming general elections with a strong strategy.

"Nurul Izzah is not new and she has fought from a young age. She earned respect not because of her family name but because she is firm on her principles and has the courage to stand up for the truth.

"Party members know her sacrifices for PKR. She can be a loyal friend, an honest advisor and a driving force who dares stand up for the truth for the sake of the party.

"As Selangor PKR chairman, I express my support along with fellow leaders from all branches in this state for Nurul Izzah's candidacy as deputy president of PKR," he said.

Among those who signed the statement are Selangor PKR deputy chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, Selangor PKR vice-chairman Hee Loy Sian and Sungai Buloh PKR chairman Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan.
