Pahang PKR supports call for Nurul Izzah to run for deputy president

PETALING JAYA: Pahang PKR has expressed support for Nurul Izzah Anwar to run for the party's deputy presidency.

Pahang PKR chairman Rizal Jamin described Nurul Izzah as a principled and visionary leader capable of carrying the party's reformist legacy into the future.

He said the party's long journey "from the streets to the corridors of power" must now be strengthened by a new generation of leaders who uphold the values of reform, champion renewal and advance the aspirations of the people.

"I express my open and full support for Nurul Izzah to offer herself and be considered as a candidate for the post of PKR deputy president for the 2025-2028 term," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 6).

Dubbing her the "Puteri Reformasi" (princess of reform), Rizal cited her contributions since the early days of the reform movement; her tenure as PKR vice-president; a two-term Member of Parliament; and her work in human rights and institutional reform.

"This party must be inherited by a new generation of vibrant and energetic leaders.

"Her potential candidacy is about the future of PKR as a party that remains relevant and trusted by the people," he said.

Rizal said Nurul Izzah's leadership style – rooted in moderation, firm principles and progressive thinking – could reinvigorate the party and serve as a bridge between the founding generation of reformists and the next.

He added that she is also well-placed to enhance collaboration with coalition partners in the unity government and contribute to national stability and the people's well-being.
