PETALING JAYA: Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, the political secretary to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and four PKR division chiefs from Melaka have declared their support for Nurul Izzah Anwar to contest the party's deputy presidency for the 2025-2028 term.
In a joint statement, Shamsul Iskandar (who leads Hang Tuah Jaya PKR), Mohd Khuzaire Mohd Kamal Kannan (Alor Gajah), Azlan Osman (Tangga Batu), Jagatheason Ramiah (Jasin) and Md Yusoff Ahmad (Kota Melaka) described Nurul Izzah as a unifying and reform-driven figure capable of advancing the party's ideals.
They also expressed "full and open support" for Nurul Izzah's candidacy, citing her principled leadership, reformist credentials and ability to connect the party's founding generation with emerging leaders.
"She is no stranger to the reform movement," the statement read, highlighting her past roles as party vice-president, two-term Member of Parliament and her recent recognition by Project Syndicate as one of its 30 Forward Thinkers.
"Her candidacy is not merely about personality or heritage. It is about the future of PKR as a progressive political party that continues to earn the people's trust," they said in a statement on Tuesday (May 6).
They also emphasised the need for leadership that upholds the party's founding principles while adapting to Malaysia's evolving political landscape.
The division chiefs said Nurul Izzah represents a leadership style rooted in moderation, integrity and vision.
They added that her presence at the top of the party could help foster stronger collaboration within the unity government and revitalise PKR's reform agenda.
"Therefore, we firmly stand in support of Nurul Izzah's candidacy for PKR deputy president for the 2025-2028 term.
"May her candidacy receive the wholehearted support of all PKR members and mark the beginning of a renewed momentum for the party as we face today's challenges and the future of the nation."
