KUCHING: The 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration Exhibition has been expanded to various digital platforms and social media accounts of agencies under the Communications Ministry, in an effort to heed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call to make the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) a national narrative.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said disseminating information through various digital platforms, such as Merdeka360, the Information Department and the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, would enable the country's formation story to reach a wider audience.
"We have many stories, for example, who designed the Proclamation of Malaysia 1963. That is a story we rarely hear and the National Archives has the information.
"We will ask for it to be published, including on the official social media accounts of agencies, such as the Information Department and other agencies," he told a press conference, after officiating the 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration Exhibition at Plaza Merdeka here on Monday (Sept 14).
He said the physical exhibition, featuring a large-scale gallery and a 'history tunnel', is also being held in 10 divisions in Sarawak, in addition to a mini exhibition in Putrajaya and Sabah, allowing the public to view documents related to the formation of Malaysia for themselves.
The 2026 Malaysia Day Celebration Exhibition, which runs from Sept 10 to 16, aims to deepen public appreciation of the country's formation history, while highlighting important documents related to MA63, the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara, through five main segments, including the Malaysia Formation Timeline and the Leaders Gallery.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the highlight of the Malaysia Day 2026 celebration, scheduled to take place at the Borneo Kuching Convention Centre on Wednesday, would showcase cultural diversity through various cultural performances, as well as performances by local artistes representing the three regions, namely Dayang Nurfaizah, Stacy and Faizal Tahir.
He also advised visitors planning to watch the fireworks display at the Kuching Waterfront to take precautions due to the haze situation.
"At present, the fireworks display will proceed, but we advise everyone, especially those who will be outdoors for a long period, to wear a face mask, preferably an N95 as recommended by the Health Ministry," he said. – Bernama
