Dad who stabbed 11-year-old son remanded for seven days

KOTA BARU: A father has been remanded for seven days starting Saturday (May 3) to assist in investigations after allegedly stabbing his 11-year-old son in an incident at Kampung Banggol Che Dol, Pohon Tanjung, Pasir Mas on Friday (May 2), Sinar Harian reports.

The Malay language daily reported that the remand order for the 47-year-old suspect, who is a teacher, was issued by Magistrate Ahmad Syafiq Aizat Nazri at a Kota Baru Magistrate's Court.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

Earlier, the suspect, dressed in an orange lock-up uniform, arrived at the court in a police truck at around 8:30am.

Sinar Harian previously reported that a domestic crisis is believed to be the cause of the incident, where the suspect stabbed his youngest son three times with a vegetable knife.

The incident, which occurred at around 9am Friday, resulted in the child sustaining two stab wounds to the chest and one to the abdomen.

Pasir Mas OCPD Asst Comm Kama Azural Mohamed, stated that the suspect is currently undergoing divorce proceedings with his wife for the third time, which is scheduled for mention at the Tumpat Syariah Court on May 13.
