PETALING JAYA: The alleged abduction case of a Sarawakian businessman's wife, Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh, has become the talk of the town.
Pamela is the wife of Datuk Seri Thomas Hah Tiing Siu, founder of JoinLand Group, which has interests in the local and international business scene.
The couple has three children.
According to a local report, Hah's company has a diversified business portfolio, including frozen food distribution, venture capital investment, real estate development, public-bonded warehouses, and forest and agriculture management.
JoinLand Group reportedly has interests in Singapore, Brunei, Australia, Papua New Guinea, China, and New Zealand.
It was also reported that Hah's company, linked to a land deal on an island in Sabah's northern Kudat district, had recently backed out of a controversial agro-development project in Pulau Balambangan.
On Friday (May 2), Pamela's brother, Simon Ling Wan Siong, stated that she had allegedly been abducted in Kuala Lumpur while on her way to meet officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Simon claimed that Pamela, 42, was in an e-hailing car to meet the officers to provide a statement linked to an ongoing investigation on April 9 when the car was intercepted by three vehicles, and she was told to get into one of them.
"Pamela has not been seen or heard from since that afternoon. It has now been more than 20 days since her disappearance," he said.
Simon said repeated calls and texts by her family and lawyer after 2pm that day went unanswered.
"We fear for her safety. The circumstances surrounding Pamela’s disappearance are highly unusual and demand an investigation," he said.
Pamela's lawyer told a portal that Pamela and her husband were in the middle of divorce proceedings.
Police have confirmed they are investigating Pamela's disappearance as a kidnapping.
On Friday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the woman had been abducted on April 9.
"She was scheduled to give a statement regarding an investigation by the MACC. The MACC also confirmed her absence," he said.
He added that a police report was made by the victim’s lawyer in Seri Kembangan.
"Statements from several witnesses, including MACC officers and the lawyer, have also been recorded. Investigations are ongoing," Comm Rusdi said.
