ALOR GAJAH: The Melaka Fire and Rescue Department has reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives and responding to emergencies, regardless of any alleged involvement of mystical or supernatural elements.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department's Zone Two Chief, Fire Superintendent Zulkhairani Ramli, said the department's primary concern was the safety and well-being of the public.
"Matters of mysticism have no bearing on how we respond to emergencies,” he said on Friday (May 2).
Supt Zulkhairani was commenting on a recent viral social media post in which a couple described their mishap on the way to provide henna application service as a "mystical experience."
The couple, aged 29 and 30, claimed their vehicle was “led” to a dead-end before becoming stuck in the mud in Kampung Ulu Pegoh, near a resort, on Wednesday (April 30).
Supt Zulkhairani said the incident occurred around 8pm on April 30.
He said that when the department received an emergency call from the distressed couple, an operation team from the Alor Gajah Fire and Rescue Station, led by Senior Fire Officer Muhammad Nur Fawzal Samsunahar, was dispatched. He was accompanied by three personnel in a four-wheel drive vehicle.
"The team found the couple's car stuck in mud approximately 15cm deep at the end of the road in Kampung Ulu Pegoh here," he said.
Supt Zulkhairani said the couple claimed they had followed directions provided by the map application on their smart device en route to the resort via Kampung Pegoh.
"They were visibly shaken and in a state of panic when our team arrived. Fortunately, they did not suffer any serious injuries," he said.
He added that his team successfully winched the vehicle out of the mud and escorted the couple back to the main road, allowing them to continue their journey to the resort.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, where the couple shared their experience, describing it as otherworldly and claiming that they were “guided” to the secluded and eerie location.
The post attracted over 2,000 comments, with some netizens describing the area as “haunted” and warning that locals generally avoid the route, which has reportedly already been fenced off.
