SHAH ALAM: The Federal Government has allocated RM40mil for repair works on homes damaged in the recent gas pipeline fire at Putra Heights.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said on Wednesday (April 30) that the repair efforts are expected to begin this week.
“Repair works will begin this week, starting with preliminary assessments like evaluating the structural integrity of the buildings.
“From the outside, a house may appear 40% burnt, but we must determine whether the walls are stable or need to be demolished. This assessment process may take one to two weeks,” during his speech at the Selangor State Secretariat building during the handover of checks to the Putra Heights victims here, on Wednesday (April 30).
Amirudin said the process would involve repair works for minor to structural damages.
“For the minor damages category, we estimate it to cost under RM30,000, and the resident can fix the damages or file claims to the local council.
“The ketua kampung and residential association (RA) presidents in charge must collect the claims from residents and send them weekly to the local council or the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).
“This way it will ease the residents, and refer to the ketua kampung or presidents of the RA to brief them,” he said.
For homes with serious damages, Amirudin said they would be repaired through two main channel,s namely Sime Darby as the developer of the Putra Heights area and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) for Kampung Sungai Baru area.
He added that additional repair work, such as wiring and the installation of accessories like fans and lights, could not be funded.
“This is all due to the contributions and assistance from the federal government, and our focus is to ensure the houses are fixed safely for families to return to,” he added.
