Negri polls: Dissatisfaction among Umno grassroots to be resolved before polling day, says Zahid

GEORGE TOWN: Any dissatisfaction among Umno grassroots in Negri Sembilan will be resolved before polling day, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said he was aware of dissatisfaction over the Klawang state seat, which the coalition is not defending.

He discussed the matter with Negri Sembilan Umno liaison committee chairman and Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, as Klawang falls within his parliamentary constituency.

"The matter is being resolved. We still have about nine days before the Negri Sembilan state elections, and I believe it can be settled," he said during a press conference after the meeting between the Rural and Regional Development Minister with rural executive councillors (Mexclub) at Bahang Bay Hotel in Penang on Thursday (July 23).

He was asked about possible boycotts or sabotage following reports that 16 Umno branches had ceased operations in protest of the decision to cede the seat to a Perikatan Nasional candidate.

The Negri Sembilan state election will take place on Aug 1.

Barisan will field 25 candidates, Perikatan will field 11 and Pakatan Harapan will contest all 36 seats.

Bersatu will stand in 24 constituencies under its own logo.
