PUTRAJAYA: The PKR central leadership committee (MPP) meeting concluded on a positive note of camaraderie among party members, where various issues were discussed, says party secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh (pic).
Dr Fuziah stated that matters related to the current party polls were discussed, and the MPP decided that candidates in the ongoing party elections would be expelled from the party if they were members of another political party.
“Their membership will be dropped, and they will be disqualified from being a candidate.
“The MPP will make announcements on specific names,” said Fuziah in a statement late Wednesday (April 23).
However, Fuziah did not mention whether the meeting had addressed objections and claims questioning the transparency of the party election results.
“The MPP meeting ended with solid support from MPP members on their collective decision achieved through the party president’s leadership.
“The MPP also states its support and appreciation to the party election committee’s efforts, which Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa leads,” said Fuziah.
Fuziah also said the upcoming PKR national congress would host around 10,000 delegates who would cast their ballots in the party polls, while another 20,000 delegates would vote online.
“For the first time, the PKR national congress is using a proportionate representation concept for delegations, as approved in the special congress in December last year,” said Fuziah.
Earlier on Wednesday, PKR strategy director Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said he would lodge a formal protest with the party’s election committee over the Johor Baru division poll results, which saw him lose his seat as division chief.
The meeting was scheduled to start at 4.30pm at Seri Perdana on Wednesday.
On Sunday (April 20) Fuziah stated that the meeting on Wednesday would be held in response to objections and claims questioning the transparency of the party election results.
But, Fuziah had stressed that this is not an emergency meeting, as the requisite seven-day notice was duly given.
Several top candidates contesting in the party polls confirmed that they had submitted formal appeals to PKR’s election committee following concerns raised over the transparency of the results and process.
Several prominent figures, including ministers and MPs, lost in their respective divisions.
Among those who failed to retain or win posts were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who lost the Setiawangsa division chief post; Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, who lost the contest for the Hang Tuah Jaya division deputy chief; and Deputy Unity Minister K. Saraswathy, who lost the Bukit Bintang division chief contest.
Also defeated were Batu MP P. Prabakaran, Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan, Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and Sungai Siput MP S. Kesavan in their respective divisions.
