Man dies, three others hurt in multi-vehicle crash on NSE near Kulai

KULAI: A man was killed while three others were injured in a five-vehicle crash at KM32.1 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound near here.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said police received an alert at around 7am on Tuesday (April 22).

He said the crash involved a motorcycle, a crane lorry, and three goods lorries.

"Preliminary investigation found that the accident occurred when a goods lorry rammed the back of the crane lorry that was in the left lane.

"The impact caused the goods lorry to go out of control and veer onto the road shoulder before stopping perpendicular to the road, blocking the left lane," he said in a statement.

Vehicles coming from behind, the two other goods lorries and a motorcycle, were unable to avoid the obstruction and crashed into it, he added.

The attendant of the first goods lorry, a 59-year-old local man, sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Hospital Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim in Kulai for a post-mortem.

Two lorry drivers, aged 29 and 37, were seriously hurt while the 24-year-old motorcyclist sustained minor injuries, ACP Tan added.

They were sent to the same hospital for treatment.

"The drivers of the crane lorry and third goods lorry were unharmed," ACP Tan said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged anyone with information on the incident to contact or go to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kulai district police headquarters.
