Ambulance carrying two accident patients involved in three-vehicle crash

JERTIH: A Health Ministry ambulance carrying two patients from an earlier motorcycle crash was involved in a triple-vehicle collision in Kampung Cherang Meliling, off Jalan Jertih - Pasir Akar, on Tuesday (June 9) evening.

OCPD Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahman said the accident occurred at 5pm as the ambulance was en route to Besut Hospital.

The two male patients, one seriously injured, the other with minor wounds, had been picked up from a previous accident in Kampung Chegar Batang.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that an MPV crossed from the right shoulder of the road and collided with the ambulance," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 10).

The impact caused the ambulance to lose control, veer onto the left shoulder, and smash into a parked car, knocking it into a drain.

Apart from the two patients in the ambulance, all others involved, including the ambulance driver and MPV driver, escaped injury. However, the front of the ambulance was damaged.

"Both patients were transferred to another ambulance and taken to Besut Hospital, located less than one kilometre from the scene," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Supt Mohd Rozaime also urged all road users to strictly follow traffic rules and give priority to emergency vehicles. — Bernama
