Driver claims trial for alleged death of motorcyclists

SEREMBAN: A 17-year-old car driver who allegedly caused the deaths of three young motorcyclists claimed trial at the Magistrate's court here to a charge of reckless driving.

The accused claimed trial to the charge after it was read to him before magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here around 8.30pm on March 6.

He was charged with causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16 and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17.

The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.

The accused also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid license.

He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to three months or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor P Rubini then asked the court to set bail at RM8,000 pending remention.

However, counsel for the accused Johan Radzi asked for a lower amount as he was unable to raise the proposed amount.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin then set bail at RM4,300 with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month.

She then fixed May 21 for remention.
