JOHOR BARU: A social media influencer claims that he is not behind a viral Facebook post insulting His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, that uses his name and picture.
Goh Khai Seng, 40, said he was the victim of a malicious attack after an irresponsible individual used his name and picture to create a Facebook account.
"This person made derogatory posts… to create confusion and tarnish my good name and image," he said in a press conference at Setia Tropika here on Friday (April 18).
Goh apologised to Sultan Ibrahim and said as a Johorean, he would never act rudely towards the royal institution.
"The posts from the fake Facebook account are not mine. I am deeply regretful and sad that this has happened.
"What worries me are the threats made against me and my family by those who don't know the whole situation," he said.
Goh said he found out about the post and fake account after a friend forwarded him a screenshot on Thursday (April 17) morning.
He said he immediately lodged a police report at 8.34am the same day, while his friend lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
"My official Facebook account has a blue tick, which shows that it is verified by the platform.
"I have almost 4,000 friends and over 1,200 followers on my real account, while the other account only has 11 friends, which shows it is fake.
"I have lodged reports with the authorities and will provide full cooperation with investigations to clear my name.
Previously, Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said a 40-year-old man had made a police report on Thursday (April 17), denying ownership of a Facebook account with the name Cayson Goh and claiming that his profile picture had been used without his consent.
ACP Balveer said police are investigating the case under Section 416 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He encouraged anyone with information to contact the police at 07-556 3122.
